The Stockholm 2017 couch is a velvet upholstered 3-seater from IKEA. It’s available in three different upholstery colors: Sandbacka dark blue (pictured), Sandbacka dark gray and Sandbacka orange. It’s a stylish, statement couch and the velvet finish gives it a luxe vibe.

This is definitely a couch made for lounging due to its combination of depth and seat cushiness. Measured at 112 cm deep, it ranks on the higher end of the depth scale.

A unique feature of the Stockholm 2017 is the inclusion of 10 throw pillows that serve as the seat back cushions. This feature lends to the overall lounging experience, but might not be to taste for all. IKEA claims that both the seat and back cushions will easily regain their shape as they are filled with high resilience foam and polyester.

When testing this couch, I rated the bounce back on the seat cushions fairly high, although it’s difficult to judge whether or not the throw pillows will last. It should also be noted that the armrests aren’t cushioned and are high, which helps contain all the throw pillows, but aren’t the most comfortable.

In terms of durability, I do foresee issues with the velvet material long term. To the touch, the fabric does not have a soft brushed feel, but a slightly coarse one. This velvet seems to attract dust and other fibers and will certainly attract pet fur. Although the IKEA website states that the fabric is easy to clean with the soft brush attachment of a vacuum, that would not clean up any spills were they to occur. The cover is not machine washable, so stains will be hard to get out.

Stockholm 2017 is a stylish, comfortable couch that would be the focal point of any living room. However, it’s not practical for everyday life due to the hard-to-clean fabric. I love the look of this couch, but I wouldn’t recommend it for anything more than a front room.
